Emerge (http://emer.ge) is a digital product & service agency, located in the heart of Portland, OR.
What makes us truly unique in the agency world is that we’re not marketers or advertisers. We strategize, design, and develop digital business products for customers, from mobile applications to sales enablement tools, IoT interfaces, and so much more.
The perfect individual for this role will be client-facing and able to assist with and lead Emerge’s own UX process — including engaging with client stakeholders and audiences to gain insights that quickly build user journeys, scenarios, and flows, lead to feature prioritization and culminate with visual wireframes. This position is highly collaborative, hands-on, and close-knit with designers, developers and producers spending considerable time together to strategize, design, and build the best solutions imaginable for our clients. If you have a great-looking portfolio, strong communication skills, a can-do attitude, and enjoy working with a diverse range of clients on a variety of fast-paced projects to refine their customers’ experience — consider joining our team!
As a UX Designer / Architect you will:
Be an advocate for the user while respecting our clients’ business vision that ultimately drives product creation, design, and development.
Lead user interviews to create or refine audience/user/customer personas and illustrate their needs through visualized user journeys, scenarios, and flows.
Assess and provide recommendations for improving their experiences, performance and/or interactions.
Analyze navigation patterns and metrics to understand user behavior and prioritize information using testing platforms like UserTesting.com when applicable.
Assess content types, recommend information hierarchy improvements, create structural prioritization, and create a content matrix framework to organize and document your findings.
Conduct collaborative UX concept development sessions with the Emerge design and implementation teams.
Design and develop sitemaps, and experience diagrams (wireframes, interaction maps and information flow schematics).
Assist with creation of client-facing presentation documentation and detailed technical documentation (UX decks, technical specifications including documentation of key states such as rollovers, page transitions, error handling, etc.).
Deliver UX solutions for multiple concurrent client projects ranging from mobile applications to CMS-based websites, custom business systems and tools, and microsites.
Keep projects on track and meet required deadlines.
Pioneer new techniques for UX development, presentation and user testing.
Share your findings with the creative and technical directors and work with teams to create unified solutions that best serve user and client needs alike.
Be a team player. We don’t have room for egos. We will make digital experiences better for all users, together.
3-5 years of real-world UX design experience with similar responsibilities. Bonus if you have professional agency experience or experience servicing multiple clients at one time. Strong problem solving abilities and an empathy-driven UX philosophy.
Friendly and engaging interpersonal skills for client worksessions and user interviews.
Excellent client presentation, communication, and writing skills.
Solid organizational and time management skills.
Professional experience developing UX and assisting with technical documentation.
Portfolio of projects showing Web, iOS/Android design solutions, responsive design, and a range of documentation samples from personas to task flows.
Knowledge of common analytics tools such as Google Analytics.
A solid understanding of HTML5, iOS, Android platform limitations and opportunities is preferred (but you don’t need to be a developer).
Visual design capabilities are a plus, but not a requirement of this role. An ability to produce low-fidelity to mid-fidelity level black & white wireframes when called upon however is essential.
Professional experience with UX prototyping and wireframing software such as Axure RP is preferred. An understanding of Sketch, Adobe CS, Google Apps, and Marvel/InVision is preferable.
